The Console Circle of Life.

While reading about the various new consoles out on the market (or out soon), I've brought together an interesting theory which may or may not be the sign of things to come for Sony's new PS3.

While the PS3 is boasting a variety of hi-tech hardware from Bluetooth wireless technology to the new (somewhat talked about) Blu-ray drive, it may not be the winning formula to Sony's console war victory. After all, its not just the PS3 thats for sale its also the software that comes with it. So far, only limited footage of up-coming titles have been shown. Mostly sequels, these video sequences are merely an appetiser for what may lie ahead for Sony's ground-breaking console. Of course the games that are getting the most buzz are Playstation's more comfortable sellers. What I mean by this is that games such as EA's Fight Night and Konami's Metal Gear Solid series are all 'bankable' stars. These games are gauranteed to generate a lot of interest no matter what system they are on. They are Sony's ace up the sleeve so to speak.

Now if you think about what's been going on in the console market as of late you'll see that Microsoft are clearly trying to get their foot firmly wedged in the door. Nintendo are using typically Nintendo-like strategies for their approach and Sony seem to be using their image as a means to release their product whenever they like. Now in my opinion, Sony are falling into a dangerous pit that resembles much of what Nintendo landed in when they release the N64.

The SNES is arguably the best console ever created by Nintendo, thus Nintendo had to come up with something groundbreaking for their next-gen platform. Unfortunately they seemed to be far too stuck on their own rules and image that the console never really evolved. It was still impressive and sported a great design with superb in-house games and interesting controllers. The downside was that the console didn't manage to gain much 3rd party support mostly due to the fact that the games were still in cartridge form rather than CD like its PS1 and Dreamcast competitors. The system was beginning to rely too heavily on its own merits and not the ever-changing world of video games.

Now keeping all that in mind, Sony seems to be following a similar style. They are using a Blu-ray drive for all games and dvd's designed by Sony themselves, the buzz mostly consists of games that have previously featured in the PS2's library and this will now be the 3rd console which comes out under the Sony name. Is this just a coincidence but didn't the 3rd console to come out for Nintendo fall to its competitors due to similar symptoms?

It could be an interesting formula to how long a console's life lasts. Will the PS3 be the next top thing? Is it that the general interest in a console lasts 10 years and the consumer moves on? Or is it how fast you get your system out on the market? I suppose until the Revolution and the Playstation 3 are upon us we will just have to wait and see.

Teenage with Muscular Distrophy is robbed of his video games...

Ok granted its not the most interesting story of ALL time but the reason I picked this is because of the news SPIN on it. Because this child has MS it's WORSE to steal from him than a child without MS? Would the station be reporting this story if the kid DIDN'T have his condition?

It's MOVIE time!! (Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit)

Starting from this post...ANY film that I go and see either at the cinema, on tv, or on DVD, I'll give a review of what I think, how I feel etc....

Todays film is the new stop-motion animated flick from the creators of Chicken Run,

Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit

It's 'vege-mania' in Wallace and Gromit's neighborhood, and our two enterprising chums are cashing in with their humane pest-control outfit, "Anti-Pesto." With only days to go before the annual Giant Vegetable Competition, business is booming, but Wallace & Gromit are finding out that running a "humane" pest control outfit has its drawbacks as their West Wallaby Street home fills to the brim with captive rabbits. Suddenly, a huge, mysterious, veg-ravaging "beast" begins attacking the town's sacred vegetable plots at night, and the competition hostess, Lady Tottington, commissions Anti-Pesto to catch it and save the day. Lying in wait, however, is Lady Tottington's snobby suitor, Victor Quartermaine, who'd rather shoot the beast and secure the position of local hero-not to mention Lady Tottingon's hand in marriage. With the fate of the competition in the balance, Lady Tottington is eventually forced to allow Victor to hunt down the vegetable chomping marauder. Little does she know that Victor's real intent could have dire consequences for her ...and our two heroes. - Summary written by Dreamworks SKG

Before I went to see this film I was BOMBARDED by the amount of hype and heresay of this film. Obviously being a huge fan I got caught up in it and had a great amount of expectation. Fortunately for the filmakers of this delightful film, the hype was matched. I wouldn't say that they film surpassed the hype (few films do) but it was an enjoyable outing with Nick Park's claim to fame characters Wallace and Gromit.

The aspect of the film that seems to draw its many fans are the broad English accents that all the characters have in the film and the comedic creations of Wallace's crazy contraptions. This time around its "Anit-Pesto" a service that has been setup to eliminate the pests that devour all the vegetable grown by the townspeople.

The humor is very predictable but what makes it so funny is the simplicity and the reactions of the characters on-screen. Particularly Gromit, who with NO voice or visible mouth makes all his expressions through his eyes. A true testament to Nick Park's animation style.

All audiences around the globe will be enterained by the broad northern accents of the Policeman to the sophisticated accents of Lady Tottington. The film also throws in a few subtle adult jokes for good measure.

Every character has been developed with amazing attention to detail...think...a kind of British Simpsons....lots of little details in the background and a few homages to other films to boot.

There's a small amount of CG effects built into the film but for purposes of what taditional stop-motion can and can't do...the computer work blends so well you don't even notice. Every detail has been added to make them look clay...fingerprints and small dents are produced to make the shots look like they were stop-amimated.

Overall this film is a MUST-SEE. Cinema has been trying too hard to scare us with all the horror/slasher pics out there. Finally there's something that can poke fun and still be very entertaining at the same time. Fun for all the family and finally chance to see Wallace and Gromit on the big screen. Is that an IPod mini in your pocket....

Yes I finally got my IPod mini and can say that 'I'm hip to be square?'. Its a nifty little device and as you all well know can play songs...but NOW...they've got one that can play videos....oooooooooooooo no.

Not interested personally, I've already got my gaming/video/mp3/photo player thingy. My PSP. So I won't fork out another £100 odd to buy something so that I can pay a further £1.99 just to watch a missed episode of 'LOST'.

There's a new battle for the future and it ain't Nintendo or Sega in the running....

its SONY vs. APPLE!!!

A Rare Day Off!

What is a day off like? Well it has the potential to be very very good or extremely bad. You can really make the most of your day or you can spoil it by sleeping.

Tomorrow (or rather today) I have the day off...and the English football team kick-off at 4pm GMT time...blah blah

If they win...it will be a good day...if they lose...you can figure the rest out.

What determines your day? I guess in this instance...TV and SPORT....
